Bristol City to benefit from transfer of Albert Adomah to Aston Villa

Bristol City will benefit from the recent transfer of former player Albert Adomah from Middlesbrough to Aston Villa – the Bristol Post have reported.

The Robins’ majority shareholder Steve Lansdown broke this news, in an interview he had with City’s official website.

Although the 64-year-old didn’t state exactly what the sell-on clause was, it is believed that the Westcountry side negotiated a 15% sell on clause with Middlesbrough when the Ghanian ace departed Ashton Gate in the Summer of 2013.

Adomah arrived in Bristol from London outfit Barnet in 2010, and played the Reds between the years of 2010 and 2013 – making 136 appearances during this time, bringing 36 goals and 17 assists.

During his time in the West Country, Adomah made his debut for Ghana – who he has since gone on to make 18 appearances for; the experienced Championship man netting twice so far in his career for the Black Stars.

This isn’t actually the first time this summer that Lee Johnson’s side have benefited from a sell on clause; the Robins pocketed £4m from Everton’s acquisition of DR Congo star Yannick Bolasie.

Bolasie signed for Bristol City from Plymouth Argyle in 2011, however departed the club only a year later – opting for a move to Selhurst Park to join Crystal Palace.

Bolasie impressed so much during his time at the Eagles that Ronald Koeman was willing to pay a fee in the region of £30m to take the wide man to Everton earlier this summer – a fee worlds away from the £85k that City paid to acquire the 27-year-old only five years ago.

Going back to Adomah – it is believed that Aston Villa paid Middlesbrough £6m for his services, if this figure is correct, then City would reportedly acquire a sizeable fee of £900,000 – which would take the windfall the club have acquired from sell on clauses this summer to nearly £5m.
