Villa’s Kodjia bid was too much for Robins to turn down

Aston Villa’s transfer offer for Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia was too much for the club to turn down according to the Bristol Post.

The 26 year old French born Ivorian striker moved to Villa Park earlier this week for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £11 million while the overall fee could rise to £15 million should the player be a success with the Midlands club.

After spending most of the summer insisting that Kodjia was not for sale it has been reported that Aston Villa’s big money offer for the striker was simply too much for Bristol City majority shareholder Steve Lansdown to turn down. Pressure was mounting on The Robins to sell the player in the lead up to Kodjia’s exit with Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Derby County all showing an interest in the striker.

Kodjia joined Bristol City last summer from French club Angers and the player went on to become a hit at Ashton Gate after netting 20 goals in 48 appearances in his first season with the club.

Aston Villa have endured a patchy start to life in the Championship with the club winning just one of their opening five fixtures and Villa will be hoping for an instant impact from Kodjia in front of goal as they aim to climb the league table.
