Sheffield United complete signing of Lafferty

Sheffield United have completed the loan signing of Daniel Lafferty from Premier League side Burnley.

Lafferty, 27, started his career with Celtic where he failed to make any appearances before going out on-loan to Ayr United in 2010. The left-back made the move from Scotland to Ireland after being released back in 2012. He then signed for hometown Derry City and went on to make 12 appearances in the Championship winning season of 2010.

A successful trial at Burnley earned himself a contract at Turf Moor for an undisclosed fee in January 2012. In February 2012 Lafferty was granted his international clearance and in March of the same year he made his first-team debut against Cardiff City.

An injury-stricken squad allowed Lafferty to have an extended time in the first-team picture, featuring in over half of the 2012-13 League fixtures.

However as the players returned to full fitness, opportunities for Lafferty with the first-team became limited and he was eventually sent on-loan to Rotherham in the Sky Bet Championship in March 2015. He then teamed up with Oldham Athletic in League One in October 2015 on a one month loan.

The Irish international has now been sent on-loan again signalling a lack of opportunities with Sean Dyche’s first team but Sheffield United will no doubt benefit from the defender’s extensive experience.
