Moyes rules out move for Aston Villa defender

Sunderland manager David Moyes has told Sky Sports that he has ‘no interest’ in a move for Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott, after the centre-half’s proposed switch to Scottish giants Rangers fell through due to a failed medical.

The former England defender looked set for a move to Ibrox but was called off at the eleventh hour after BBC Scotland reported that Lescott failed a medical in Glasgow.

That appeared to pave the way for a move to the north-east, with reports in Scotland suggesting that Moyes was eager to make the former Wolves and Manchester City star part of his squad at the Stadium of the Light, having previously managed the player at Everton.

But the former Manchester United supremo has now rubbished those rumours. Speaking to Sky Sports before the Black Cats’ derby fixture against Middlesbrough this weekend, the Scot said:

But the Black Cats are short of centre-half options. Younes Kaboul has joined Watford and Lamine Kone has expressed his desire to leave the Stadium of the Light, with Moyes’ former club Everton hopeful of an £18-million move for the defender.
