Swindon in talks to sign ex-Premier League striker

Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams has confirmed to the BBC that the club are in talks to sign free agent striker Nathan Delfouneso. He has been without a club since being released by Sky Bet Championship side Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season.

The 25-year-old also possessed Premier League experience from his time at Aston Villa, where he came through the ranks. He has experience of Sky Bet League One from loan spells at Coventry City, and last season with Bury.

Williams admitted that he has made a contract offer to the former England Under-21 international and says that he will only sign if it is the right move for him,

“Nathan (Delfouneso) is considering what we’re putting on the table.

“He’s got to be happy that he wants to commit to us.”

The tall striker has been anything but prolific in his career so far, with six goals during his first of two separate loan spells at Blackpool in the 2012/13 season being his best return to date. However he hasn’t necessarily been a regular for too many periods of his career, and he’ll argue that if he is given game time then he’ll bring them goals. Swindon are certainly looking to boost their forward line after star man Nicky Ajose left to join divisional rivals Charlton Athletic over the summer. Jonathan Obika, Luke Norris and Jermaine Hylton are the three main strikers currently in the first-team squad.
