The two paths of these teams haven’t crossed that much in the past decade with Blackburn spending all of their recent years in the top flight and Burnley only managing one season in the Premier league. However this doesn’t mean to say the hatred has died down between the sides in fact it’s probably made it stronger as when the two teams do meet it makes it even more special. With just 12 miles separating the two towns it’s easy to see why this derby is so fierce, the claret and blue of Burnley pitting their wits against the blue and white of Blackburn. Blackburn are winning the head to head record between the teams 40 to 35 but in 3 of the last 4 meetings the game has ended in a 1-1 draw. The last game at Ewood Park broke the trend as Burnley through goals from Shackell and Ings came from a goal behind to beat their local rivals. With Burnley firmly placed in second place in the Championship it looks like the tables have finally turned in East Lancashire.
