Bristol City defender subject to Celtic interest

Bristol City’s Luke Ayling is being tracked by Celtic according to a report from the Bristol Post.

There had been some mutterings in the Robins fanbase that Ayling may be about to leave Ashton Gate after what happened last night. While it was never expected he would start in the EFL Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers, instead Adam Matthews got the chance to impress, it was a surprise that he was completely left out of the squad. This led to some speculation that he may be leaving soon.

And this talk has suddenly got a lot more truth behind it after this report suggested that the Scottish champions are interested in signing him. Their head coach Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign a new right back and with Ayling having plenty of success when he has been at the Robins, he seems to be the ideal addition to the Celtic squad.

And as long as they get a good fee for him, Bristol City may be willing to sell him. After signing Matthews in the summer on a season-long loan from Sunderland, they are now quite strong in the right back area. They can also utilise Mark Little and Zak Vyner in this area, meaning that Ayling would not need a replacement if he left.
