Three things learnt from Forest’s win at Doncaster Rovers

Nottingham Forest left it late to secure a 2-1 victory over League 2 club Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.

David Vaughan put The Reds ahead early in the match but Liam Mandeville levelled matters mid-way through the second half with a scrambled equaliser for Doncaster Rovers. The match looked to be heading into extra time until Jamie Ward hit a dramatic winner to send Forest into the Second Round.

The result signalled a second straight victory for Forest and The72 takes a look at three things learnt from Philippe Montanier’s side’s latest victory.

Togetherness is evident in the dressing room

After Forest held their nerve to beat Burton Albion (4-3) on Saturday, a Doncaster Rovers side who are fancied to do well in SkyBet League Two this season looked a real test on paper for The Reds but another gritty performance secured the win. The players are playing with determination and togetherness for new boss Montanier and that bodes well for the challenges ahead.

Excitement ahead at The City Ground

Despite conceding four goals in their opening two matches, watching Nottingham Forest could be an exciting prospect this season. The Reds have netted six goals already in the two fixtures and Philippe Montanier’s philosophy seems very much to focus on attack.

Goals could come from many sources

Forest really did struggle to score goals last season and while many of the players have remained at The City Ground the club have already seen five different players hit the back of the net. Philippe Montanier seems to have installed belief and freedom within his players and add the returning Britt Assombalonga into the mix and hitting the back of the net may not be as problematic this time round.

Nottingham Forest’s next match sees them travel to The Amex Stadium where they will face Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday evening.
