Sheffield Wednesday have signed Will Buckley from Sunderland on a season long loan as confirmed by the club website.
The Owls have been looking for a new winger after Aiden McGeady’s loan ended last season and he returned to his parent club Everton, with Wednesday having no interest in bringing him back on a more permanent basis. And now they have got their man after they signed Buckley on a loan deal that will keep him at Hillsborough for the season.
The 26-year-old winger signed for Sunderland back in 2014, following his previous manager Gus Poyet to the Stadium of Light. Under Poyet he was impressed for the Black Cats but after his sacking he found himself frozen out of the first team. Since then he has had loan spells at Sky Bet Championship sides Birmingham City and Leeds United and this move means he will once again return to the second tier of English football. He should make his début in Sunday’s televised clash against promotion rivals Aston Villa.
Buckley becomes Wednesday’s firth senior signing of the summer as their head coach Carlos Carvalhal looks to make sure they don’t suffer last season’s heartbreak. The other players to have joined the Owls are Almen Abdi, Steven Fletcher, Jake Kean and Daniel Pudil.
