Bristol City

Bristol City – season preview

Bristol City enjoyed a successful first season back in the Championship in 2015/16.

Although they finished in 18th place, they were a distance away from relegation, and recorded some impressive victories.

Boss Lee Johnson has said that he feels his side can be in the Europa League in the next seven seasons, but realistically what can be expected from Bristol City this campaign?

Key signings:

The signing of Lee Tomlin on a permanent deal has excited Bristol City fans. Tomlin impressed on loan at the club in the second half of last season, and has made his move permanent this summer. Bristol City have also signed Icelandic defender Hordor Magnusson from Juventus. He was included in Iceland’s 23 man squad for Euro 2016, but failed to play a single minute. Nonetheless, the signing of a player who was formerly on Juventus’ books has left Bristol City fans optimistic about the coming season.

Key players:

It’s hard to look past star striker Jonathon Kodjia. Without his goals last season, Bristol City could have been in a completely different predicament. They’ve done well to keep hold of him this summer, and he’ll hope to keep building on his goal tally from last season. Lee Tomlin will also be crucial. The attacking midfielder possesses the quality to unlock defences, as well as the ability to create something out of nothing. If these two can form a partnership, Bristol City will do well this season.

Prediction:

In Lee Johnson, Bristol City have an ambitious manager who knows how to get the best out of his players. He’ll be looking to build on last season’s 18th place finish, and I see no reason why they can’t. Keeping hold of Kodjia was key, and the signings they’ve made have only improved the squad. City fans will be hoping for further consolidation as a Championship club, and that’s exactly what I think will happen. A mid table finish is on the cards for Bristol City.
