Bristol City boss Johnson dreams of Europe for Robins

When speaking to BBC Sport, Bristol City boss Lee Johnson revealed that he wants his team to play in Europe in five years time.

The Robins have failed to play in the top-tier of football since 1980 and just a year ago were plying their trade in League One.

His first managerial appointment came in 2013 when Johnson became manager of League One side Oldham Athletic with a two-year deal.

Johnson altered the Latics’ style of play during the 2014-15 season, earning him a role as Head Coach at Barnsley which he accepted in February 2015.

The former Bristol City midfielder was appointed manager of Bristol City with a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Robins in the second flight of football.

However, Johnson feels that he could lead the Robins to European football with the backing of local businessman and owner Steve Lansdown.

When asked where he sees the Club in five years time, Johnson replied that Bristol City are going to “give it a go”.

“I believe it as well. I believe it is putting pressure on everybody at the club and we can deal with that pressure.

“Yes it will be very, very difficult, but why not? We’re ready to go. Bristol is a fantastic city.

“I love the city, and the club, to bits. It’s an amazing new stadium that will only get better as well.”

Bristol begin their League campaign at home to newly promoted side Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
