Sheffield Wednesday reject £5m offer for star defender

Sheffield Wednesday have turned down an offer of £5m from an unnamed club for Tom Lees according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Since signing for the Owls in 2014, Lees has become a star player for the club due to his consistency in defence. In both of the years he has played at Hillsborough, they have matched the club record for most clean sheets.

And after suffering disappointment last season after losing in the play off final to Hull City, Premier League teams have started to look into signing the former Leeds man. Burnley, Sunderland and Wednesday’s Championship rivals Derby County and Fulham have all reportedly made enquiries about how much Lees would cost and now it seems as if one of them has made their first bid to try to lure the defender away from South Yorkshire.

But it is going to cost a lot more than £5m to sign Lees after Sheffield Wednesday quickly rejected the offer. Their head coach Carlos Carvalhal is keen not to lose one of his best players as they look to bounce back from last season’s heartbreak at Wembley and get promoted to the Premier League. They already have a lack of depth in the centre back position with club captain Glenn Loovens set to spend some time out with injury and don’t want to weaken the position further.
