With the news on Monday that Billy Davies was sacked by Nottingham Forest, the Football League has now witnessed a total of 24 departures this season, 11 behind last season’s total.

With 10 and 8 respective departures so far, both the Championship and League 1 are 3 sackings away from equalling their record breaking totals last year, 11. With around 10 games ago and with the play-off and relegation places still far from being settled, the Championship could yet approach that figure.

With things a little less in the balance towards the top end of League 1 it’s unlikely that we will see any comings and goings there, but relegation places may go down to the wire. Will clubs be tempted into changing their man at the top for the remaining games? You wouldn’t bet against it.

And with just 6 points separating 23rd from 16th in League 2, some clubs may well choose to follow the logic that suited Barnet for so many years and hire a temporary replacement to give them that much needed boost just before the end of the season.
