Steven Pressley has caused a pre-season shock by resigning as the head coach of Fleetwood Town, as confirmed by the club website.
The 42-year-old had only taken charge of the Cod Army nine months ago after the sacking of Graham Alexander when he was able to save the club from relegation to League 2. It was expected after a busy pre-season where he signed ten players that he would try to push Fleetwood up the table this season but has shocked the fanbase by resigning today.
However it was announced on the club website that after a meeting between the board and Pressley today, it was agreed that the two parties would split ways here so a new direction can be established at the club.
It is unknown who is in the race to become the new Fleetwood manager but they will have to deal with the fact Pressley has already made a massive impact on the squad. He has signed ten players this summer, with them being Matt Urwin, Cian Bolger, Michael Duckworth, Ricardo Kip, Alex Cairns, Chris Neal, Dion Charles, Ashley Eastham, Aaron Amadi-Holloway and Ashley Nadesam.
The new manager will hope to be in place before Fleetwood’s first game of the season against Northampton Town.
