Leeds United: fans Kappa eyeful of ‘supposed’ home shirt – reaction

It doesn’t take much to get the interest of Leeds United fans piqued a little. It used to be enough to whisper “Psst, Adryan,” and there’d be fizzing energy emitted. Then it was a case of simply nudging and hinting at “Hey, Limbombe,” cue more bouncy Leeds fans. Now it’s “Psst, new home shirt.”

Yes, a picture is circulating around the Twittersphere of Leeds United’s ‘supposed’ new home shirt for the 2016/17 campaign, Leeds fans having already seen the yellow and blue variants of the said shirt. Mighty nice they are too but it’s all about the white for Leeds fans, all about the white.

Here is the ‘supposed’ home shirt, resplendent in white, that have more than piqued the interest of Leeds United fans.

Beautiful isn’t it? A thing of simplicity and sheer beauty isn’t it? I’d be rushing out to buy one. Except there are none in stock, well not yet. It could very well be a teaser could this ‘supposed’ home shirt. I keep saying ‘supposed’ because that’s what it is. Like a lot of things from Elland Road, the simplicity is often shrouded in the smokiness of conjecture and confusion. Oh and the downwind whiff of a fully-working auction market too, that heady aroma linked with ‘releases’ such as this one and the ‘takeover’ news form yesterday.

The thing is though, Leeds fans are pretty savvy to such things and tend not to follow such japery as a donkey blindly follows a dangled carrot. The reaction over on Twitter is a joy to behold with Leeds fans responding in true Leeds style, a unique mixture of sarcasm and wit.

‘Supposed’ new Leeds home shirt released – Leeds fans reactions on Twitter

Firstly, one Leeds fan was genuinely concerned about the snugness of the new shirt’s fit onto his not skinny minny frame.

Now the beauty of this response is not just in the picture of ‘Dave’ from ‘Fully Monty’ wrapping himself in cling film to get himself ready to drop his drawers. Nope, it is the added comment afterwards from a fellow Leeds fan and Twitter regular in #Mexit #MassimoEsodo (@WACCOE) who wrote “I met a lady who had met a man who did that…It wasn’t for weight loss!”

This Leeds fan, Hull Whites, is more pragmatic, concerned only with the new shirt’s sartorial elegance.

Talking of pragmatism, Twitter user Peter Smith makes a very valid observation about shirt vs fan.

To add a sense of credence to what Peter says, this Leeds fan has already rushed out and placed an order for one.

For some the attention is in the detail. In summary ‘supposed’ shirt great, but collar a bit off.

That collar! Something that Leeds fan Beth also picks up on.

It’s safe to say that the majority of Leeds fans, sick of chasing airy dreams, have decided to wait for the official unveiling before committing to showing their true feelings on the simple whiteness that is the 2016/17 home shirt.

Until then, it’s simply wit, cynicism and sarcasm that are the ingredients of the day.
