Bayern Munich goalkeeper set for Championship transfer

The Bristol Post reports that Bristol City are to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Ivan Lucic. An undisclosed fee has been agreed with the Bundesliga giants, and the 21-year-old will make the move subject to a medical.

He has been on trial with the Sky Bet Championship club. Despite being on trial with the Robins, he played against Bristol City for Cheltenham Town in a friendly tonight (Monday). This is due to Cheltenham being without their first choice keeper. They managed managed by Gary Johnson, son of Bristol head coach Lee. The two clubs agreed to the favour.

The game at Whaddon Road ended 2-1 to the Championship side thanks to goals from Jonathan Kodjia and Lee Tomlin. Talks between Bristol and Bayern took place over the weekend, and a fee was subsequently agreed. The Austria keeper has been on the books of the 5-time European cup champions since 2014. He hasn’t appeared in the first team, only featuring in the Bayern Munich II team.

He has already pulled on the Bristol City shirt in their early friendly victory over Hengrove Athletic. He should be free to make his debut as a full time Robin this weekend in the friendly encounter with League Two side Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

The 6ft 4in keeper will now challenge with Richard O’Donnell for the number one jersey at Ashton Gate. Frank Fielding is still recovering from a long term injury. For any Bristol City fans not too aware of Lucic’s attributes, then check out the video below!
