Sheff Utd line up third bid for ex-Sheff Wed forward

The Sheffield Star understands that Sheffield United are to make another bid for Bury striker Leon Clarke. The Blades have already seen two bids for the former Sheffield Wednesday front man turned down by their League One rivals.

Clarke was left out of Bury’s friendly clash against Southend United by manager David Flitcroft. This is because the player has ‘had his head turned’ by the approach. There have been no official talks at this stage but it would appear that the 31-year-old is very much open to a transfer to Bramall Lane.

With Che Adams linked with a move away, manager Chris Wilder is keen to add another striker. He is particular keen to strength a big and strong forward, of which Clarke meets that description. Clarke, who began his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers, remains a transfer target and assistant manager Alan Knills is hopeful of adding to the squad before the season starts,

“We are two weeks away (from the start of the season) and we think there’s always room for improvement.

“Whether it be from the players who are already here or from outside the group. And if there are ways to improve, then we’ll always try and do it. That goes without saying.”

Clarke fired in 18 goals last season in League One for Bury, and there are many vibes that he could now move back to Sheffield, this time for the red half!
