Newcastle want to bring in Sheffield United striker

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez wants to bring in Sheffield United striker Che Adams before the end of the transfer window, according to The Sun.

Benitez has decided that he wishes to bring in another striker, and Che Adams is reportedly the Spaniard’s top target.  However Sheffield United will not be keen on any deal, with the striker very important for the club last season.

Adams, 20, spent his youth career with Coventry before moving to non-league side Ilkeston, where the forward impressed straight away.  In one game, Adams had 45 scouts from different clubs watching him.  At the end of his time with Ilkeston, Adams had scored nine goals in 16 league games for the club.

Sheffield United won the race to sign Adams in late 2014.  The forward once again made headlines straight away, coming off the bench in the League Cup Semi-Final against Tottenham Hotspur to score two goals in two minutes.

Despite his heroics in the League Cup, Adams failed to score a league goal for Sheffield United until the following season, becoming key to the team.

Adams scored 11 times in 36 league appearances for Sheffield United last season, and has therefore attracted lots of potential suitors from higher divisions.

Newcastle United are looking to bounce straight back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking and have already signed several British players this summer.  The additions of Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie and Grant Hanley have already strengthened the squad, but Benitez will want to make sure that Newcastle go up this season.

The signing of Che Adams could reduce the pressure on the rest of Newcastle’s forwards, whilst potentially giving Adams a chance at Premier League football next season.
