Former Leeds forward on trial at League One club

Former Leeds United youngster Lewis Walters is on-trial at League One outfit Sheffield United, after being named in the team for last night’s clash against Halifax Town.

The Blades lost the clash 2-0, but Walters was named amongst the subs for the game against the non-league side.

The 21-year-old is a free agent following his release from the West Yorkshire club this summer, and is now being looked at by Sheffield United.

Despite being a regular feature for the Leeds United youth team, Walters was only able to fight for a place on the bench in the first-team and was subsequently released by the club.

The Blades have forwards Billy Sharp, Che Adams, Marc McNulty and Dominic Calvert-Lewin available to new boss Chris Wilder. With Che Adams reportedly interesting clubs in higher divisions, United will be in need of further recruits in the forwards department.

At this stage, it is unclear if Lewis Walters will continue his time at the club, with Sheffield United facing Grimsby Town away from home on Saturday afternoon.

The South Yorkshire side have seen mixed results during their pre-season campaign, having beaten Stocksbridge Park Steels and a ‘Murcia Regional Representative Squad’ but losing to Halifax Town, the game that Walters featured in the squad.

Sheffield United face Bolton Wanderers at the Macron Stadium to start off their Sky Bet League One campaign.
