Birmingham interested in Finnish striker

Birmingham City are reportedly chasing Finnish striker Tim Väyrynen of Dynamo Dresden, according to German website mopo24.de.

The forward, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, is a towering 6’3 but has a fairly average goalscoring record over his, albeit short, career.

He’s just 23, and grabbed three goals and three assists in 14 appearances last year, which likely included some sub appearances, and has a year left on his contract.

Birmingham are looking to add a forward to their ranks with rumours of James Wilson and Nelson Oliveira around and maybe see Väyrynen as a cheap alternative.

Due to him playing in the second Bundesliga in Germany, very little data actually exists and Blues fans will have to trust their scouting department and manager Gary Rowett’s judgement if this one comes off.

Väyrynen has seven full international caps for his native Finland, where he started his career, bagging 34 goals in 81 games, which earned him his move to Borussia Dortmund but he failed to impress there.

There appears to be a player there, as he has scored goals at some times in his career but this looks like a gamble from Birmingham should the move come off.

The article also appears to state that other teams may be interested in the striker.
