No Roots Hall return for Bees midfielder McCormack

Brentford manager Dean Smith expects midfielder Alan McCormack to remain with the club next season according to Get West London.

The 32 year old Dublin born midfielder has a year left on his deal at Griffin Park but The Bees boss Smith anticipates that the experienced player will see out the remainder of his contract with the club and has denied rumours that McCormack could return to former club Southend United.

“There’s nothing in it” Smith told Get West London when asked about McCormack possibly returning to Roots Hall. “He must have had a game of golf with Phil Brown or something, I know Phil well.”

“Alan has trained really well, and I think he really enjoys it at the football club, but he’s got to get the shirt because I’ve got Nico Yennaris and Ryan Woods, as well as Josh McEachran coming back next week – he should be able to play against Wycombe (next Tuesday).”

McCormack joined Brentford in June 2013 after failing to agree terms to extend his contract at former club Swindon Town. The midfielder has gone on to make 92 appearances for The Bees and has scored three goals.

The player previously had three spells with Southend United. McCormack was loaned to The Shrimpers in 2005 and 2006 when he was on the books as a youngster at Preston North End before moving to Roots Hall permanently in January 2007.
