Bradford City close in on League Two keeper

Bradford are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Blackpool goalkeeper Colin Doyle, according to the Telegraph and Argus.

The Bantams have activated a clause in the 31-year-old’s contract, securing Doyle’s switch to Valley Parade under new Bradford boss Stuart McCall.

Without a senior goalkeeper at the club, McCall will have been desperate to secure Doyle’s signature, and is seemingly on the verge of capturing his man.

Doyle began his professional career at Birmingham in 2003, making only 64 appearances in 12 years with the club, spending most of the period on various loan stints.

A 2015 switch to Bloomfield Road however reignited the Republic of Ireland international’s career, Doyle making 35 appearances across the 2015-16 League One campaign. Although Doyle’s exploits weren’t enough to prevent a second consecutive relegation, the keeper still remained in high regards with supporters of the club.

A return to League One football appears to be on the cards for the keeper however, with Bradford set to give Doyle further opportunities to shine in the third division.

Having narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship following a playoff exit, The Bantams will be hoping to bolster the strength of their squad in order to push for a return to the second tier for the first time since 2004.
