Boreham Wood cause pre-season shock against Brentford

Boreham Wood have caused a shock in pre-season after they beat Brentford 2-1.

The Bees will have traveled the short distance to Meadow Park with the expectation of a simple warm up game and a win to boost the confidence of their squad early on in the campaign.

However despite a lively start start to the first half, with reserve Bradley Clayton particularly impressed after forcing a good save from Boreham keeper Grant Smith with a volley before chipping the ball wide, the Vanarama National side got first blood with a stunner.

Some good play from Boreham Wood saw the ball knocked down to Bruno Andrade on the far left of the box and he volleyed the ball into the top corner, giving Bees keeper Jack Bonham no chance to save.

In the second half Brentford changed the majority of their team with only Bonham and Jan Holldack staying on. And it was Bonham who got into trouble when he took out Ricky Shakes in the box, leading to a penalty. Bonham did redeem himself when he saved Conor Clifford’s penalty, but the former Chelsea midfielder was quickest to react and he tapped the ball into the empty net.

Brentford did get a goal back when Harlee Dean’s superb cross was headed in by Lewis MacLeod, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a disappointing start to the season.
