Aston Villa target signs new contract with Norwich City

Graham Dorrans has signed a new three year contract with Norwich City as confirmed by the club website.

After an initially successful loan spell with the Canaries at the tail end of the 2014/15 season where he helped them to get promoted to the Premier League, he signed permanently in the summer but was unable to keep them in the top tier.

After Norwich’s relegation to the Championship, he like many players at the club was linked with a move away from Carrow Road. Reports had suggested that Aston Villa were interested in the midfielder, with the speculation being fueled by new head coach Roberto Di Matteo being familiar with Dorrans when they were both at West Brom when they were promoted to the Premier League.

However Dorrans will be staying at Norwich after he signed a three year contract that will keep him at the club until 2019. Now he will aim to get promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

After signing a new contract, he said: “I’m delighted to get it over the line and am looking forward to getting started now.”

“When I first arrived I settled in quite quickly. I was made to feel really welcome and my family have settled into the area really well too, so I’m really pleased to be staying.”

“I’ve been promoted from the Championship a couple of times now so it will be good to get going again. The Championship is a tough league, which we know, but I’m sure we’ll push on and challenge.”

“We’ve had a tough couple of weeks at the start of pre-season but we’re all feeling better for it. We’re now looking forward to the friendlies and getting match fit again.”
