Derby defender looks set for return to Spain

Derby County’s Raul Albentosa looks set to return to Spain after he was linked with a move to Deportivo la Coruna as reported by Spanish newspaper AS.

The 27-year-old defender joined the Rams back in January 2015 from Eibar but struggled to settle in England and get a first team spot with the club.

That meant that Albentosa was loaned back to Spain to play for Malaga for the entirety of last season but he didn’t impress enough there for them to sign him for the previously agreed fee. This means that the Spaniard is currently in Derby for their pre-season training though he is still looking to leave the East Midlands club.

However he could be returning to Spain and this time for good after it was reported that Deportivo were interested in signing him. They are hoping to strengthen their side ahead of the new La Liga season and see him as the perfect addition to their team.

Derby’s new manager Nigel Pearson is yet to make his impact on the squad having made no signings yet, though he has been able to get rid of a number of players including Connor Sammon, Kwame Thomas, Stephen Warnock, Mats Morch, Shaquille McDonald, Ivan Calero and Ryan Shotton.
