Charlton admit interest from elsewhere in their Euro 2016 winger

Speaking to the South London Press, Charlton Athletic manager Russell Slade has confirmed there has been interest in winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson. The Addicks are believed to want £3million for the Icelandic international.

The 25-year-old played every game for his country at Euro 2016 this summer as they reached the quarter-finals. Gudmundsson was also one of the shining lights for Charlton during their relegation campaign last season.

It is believed that Championship side Norwich City are firmly interested in the ex-AZ Alkmaar man. Slade concedes that there has been interest from elsewhere and that he wants to play at the highest level,

“It’s no secret that he’ll want to play at the highest level and his performances in the Euros won’t have done him any harm.

“It is honest to say that we have had interest.

“It is not like he is going to lose his fitness – because he did some running in France. He will take a little break to recharge his battery and we’ll speak to him about that.”

Gudmundsson was high up the Championship assists chart despite their relegation last season. He played a total of 42 times for Charlton last season, but his efforts weren’t enough to guide them to safety. Slade took charge at The Valley this summer after Jose Riga left following the final day defeat to champions Burnley. Could Gudmundsson be heading out the exit door as well?
