Former Newcastle & Villa man training with Sunderland

Former Aston Villa midfielder Charles N’Zogbia is currently training with Premier League side Sunderland (Sunderland Echo). The 30-year-old Frenchman has also played for Wigan Athletic and Sunderland’s local rivals Newcastle United in his playing career.

He was released by Villa over the summer after failing to earn a new contract. N’Zogbia played just twice in what was his fifth and final season at Villa Park. He hasn’t played a professional game since November 2015.

N’Zogbia reportedly earned £50,000-a-week at Villa. He essentially earned £25,000 per game for his two appearances last season as they club dropped into the Sky Bet Championship.

Prior to joining Villa, Sunderland did try and sign the player from Wigan back in 2011. Then manager Steve Bruce could not agree a deal. Now he is a free agent, Sam Allardyce has a much better chance. Of course, there is no guarantee that they will in fact make their move. He is purely training with the club at present.

He made the move to Newcastle in 2004 from French side Le Havre. He earned rave reviews for some of his performances at St James’ Park. Consistency is what has dragged him back for the majority of his career. A move to the Premier League after a dismal showing last season would be excellent going on his part!
