Plymouth Argyle sign loan star on permanent deal

Plymouth Argyle have signed Oscar Threlkeld from Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 22-year-old midfielder had signed for the Pilgrims on loan last summer and after waiting a while for his debut, he ended up going on to make 27 appearances and scored one goal, helping the club get into the play offs. However the terms of the loan meant he couldn’t stay with the squad for the play offs and Plymouth ended up losing in the final to AFC Wimbledon.

He did impress during that spell and ended up being the runner up to Hiram Boateng in the Young Player of the Season award and obviously he made enough of an impression on Derek Adams to sign him again on a contract of undisclosed length.

After coming through the Bolton academy, Threlkeld went on to make 11 appearances for the club but despite their relegation to League 1, it was determined that it was unlikely that he was going to break through into the first team and was released this summer.

Threlkeld is the eighth signing of what has been a very busy summer for Plymouth. Players who have already joined are David Goodwillie, Nauris Bulvitis, Jordan Slew, Karleigh Osborne, Ryan Donaldson, Gary Miller and Jimmy Spencer.
