Youngster Matthew Stevens joins Posh

Peterborough United have announced the signing of a striker who netted more than 50 times last season.

Barnet’s Matthew Stevens has signed a three year contract with the Posh after an impressive campaign with Barnet’s junior teams last season.

Amongst these 50 goals were hat-tricks against both Posh U18s, and Posh U21s.

Stevens appeared 12 times for the first time last season, scoring twice. He only started two games though, with 10 coming from off the bench.

Stevens has been with the Peterborough first team squad in Portugal this week, and he’s pleased with how quickly he’s settled in.

“I’ve been buzzing all week. The lads have made me feel very welcome and I can’t wait to get the next chapter in my career started,” he said.

“As soon as I heard Peterborough were interested in signing me I wanted to come. It’s a great club and a big step up for me.

“I will put pressure on myself to do well. I scored for Barnet’s first team as a 17 year-old and I scored more than 50 goals for their youth team.

“I believe if you’re good enough you’re old enough and I want to take advantage of any opportunity that comes my way.

“I feel I’ve done well in training this week. It’s a taste for me of what’s to come.”

Matthew Stevens becomes Peterborough United’s sixth signing of the summer.
