New contract for young Brentford full back

Championship club Brentford have announced that defender Josh Clarke has signed a new two-year contract. The right back would have been out of contract later this week, but has now officially extended his stay at Griffin Park.

Last season, Clarke started the campaign enjoying a run of games. However he was soon shipped out on loan to Barnet. He then returned to the Bees and made eight appearances from April onwards.

Speaking after the news of Clarke’s extension, Head Coach Dean Smith spoke of his delight,

“I’m pleased that a new contract for Josh has been sorted. He finished last season really well and his role now is to carry that on. He has to continue developing, learning and to continue the work ethic that has seen him rewarded with a new contract.”

Clarke has been a professional at the club since 2013. He has now made 12 first-team appearances for the club. Loan spells at Dagenham & Redbridge and Stevenage have followed, in addition to his time with Barnet.

His new deal will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2017/18 season. Clarke will now set his sights on bagging himself a regular starting place in Smith’s first eleven next season.
