Tribunal likely to fix fee in Brentford signing of League One defender

According to Kent Online, Gillingham have told Championship side Brentford to up their offer for defender John Egan. He is still expected to leave the League One club this summer as he is soon out of contract.

Failure for the two clubs to agree a fee, then a transfer tribunal will make that decision. The Gills are entitled to a lump sum for Egan as he is under the age of 24.

Brentford have been admirers of the 23-year-old Irishman for some time. They previously failed to lure him away from Priestfield in a deadline-day move.

Since signing in July 2014, centre back Egan has played 81 League One matches for the club, scoring ten goals in the process. Previously speaking on the deal, Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh said it is likely to go to a tribunal,

“They made an offer which didn’t meet our valuation and we made them aware of what we valued him at. If that can’t be met then the fee gets set by a tribunal.”

The ex-Sunderland youngster is therefore set to add a third permanent club to his playing CV. He has also had loan spells at Crystal Palace, Bradford CityBradford City, Southend United and Sheffield United.
