Blackburn Rovers facing battle to keep full back

Blackburn Rovers are facing a battle to keep Tommy Spurr at the club according to a report from the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 28-year-old left back is very highly rated at Ewood Park and that was shown when he was the only out of contract player that new manager Owen Coyle offered a new deal to.

However they may not be able to keep Spurr at the club as a number of clubs have also offered deals to him. Most of the teams that have offered him a deal are currently unknown, though it has been reported that Preston North End are interested in signing him.

The Lancashire club have already made preparations just in case Spurr decides to leave. They have signed Stephen Hendrie on loan from Falkirk who can play in Spurr’s position and while Coyle would like him to just be competition for Spurr, he may end up being the starter.

Confirming the interest in Spurr, his agent Kevin Sharp said: “Tommy is a free agent and there has been a lot of interest in him,”

“That is not surprising considering his age and experience. He is an attractive proposition.”

“Blackburn are keen to keep him while Preston are one of the clubs we have been in discussions with.”

“Nothing will be decided until the back end of the month.”
