Blackburn aim to beat competition to ex-Man Utd midfielder

Blackburn Rovers are in discussions over the signing of free agent Nick Powell. The Daily Mail understands that Owen Coyle is hoping to make him his latest Ewood Park signing.

Earlier this week, Anthony Stokes, also a free agent, made the move to the Championship club.

Powell was released by Manchester United this summer. He only made nine appearances for the first team since signing from Crewe Alexandra in June 2012. Injuries hampered his progress, but he spent a large amount of time out on loan. Stints at Leicester, Wigan and most recently Hull City followed.

Coyle is no stranger to working with Powell, having spent time with him when he was manager of Wigan. Arguably it was his time at the DW Stadium where he last played his most productive football. He scored 12 goals during his season-long loan spell.

Hull are also interested in signing the player permanently. However the future of manager Steve Bruce is somewhat unclear at this moment in time.

Blackburn are hunting down the signatures of several faces this summer. They still plan on speaking to Danny Graham, who spent time on loan at the club last season. Stephen Hendrie has also joined on loan from West Ham United.

Last season he made a total seven appearances in club football. That included an appearance for Man Utd away to Wolfsburg in the Champions League. His final appearance was against Arsenal in the FA Cup for Hull.
