Walsall playmaker rejects new contract ahead of Brentford move

Romaine Sawyers has rejected a contract offer from Walsall ahead of a move to Brentford according to a report from Get West London.

Since moving from West Brom, initially on loan and later made permanent, the 24-year-old midfielder has been a star for the Saddlers and was one of the main reasons they were able to make the play offs this season.

However there was always the fear he would leave the Bescot Stadium at the end of his contract and that fear has now been realised after he, along with Paul Downing and Milan Lalkovic, has turned down a new contract and will leave the club.

And according to this report, Sawyers knows which club he will be moving to as Brentford are set to sign the attacking midfielder. The move would make sense as the current head coach of Brentford is Dean Smith, the man who brought Sawyers to Walsall in the first place and helped to mould him into the player that he is today.

Sawyers, an international for Caribbean side St Kitts and Nevis, was one of the best players in League 1 last season and was named in the team of the season, though it did end disappointingly after they lost to Barnsley in the play offs.
