Phillips set to leave QPR for Premier League in £4million deal

The Express & Star understands that Queens Park Rangers will accept West Brom’s £4million offer for winger Matt Phillips. He is one of the higher earners playing at Loftus Road.

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is keen on letting players on a high wage exit Loftus Road. This is because he wants to stamp his own authority on the squad. Although he’ll lose a key player, he’ll free up wages in the process.

The deal is likely to go through without any problems, assuming personal terms can be agreed.

This looks set to end West Brom’s long interest in signing the player. They decided against making their move in January as the club don’t like using that market at that time of year.

The Championship club originally wanted £8million from the Tony Pulis-managed club when they first declared their interest. They will now have to settle for half that figure, but it should go back into strengthening the squad.

The Baggies return for pre-season training on July 4th. Pulis is currently away at Euro 2016 in France with ITV doing some commentary work. Having Phillips report for the first day of training will be a big boost to him and the squad.

QPR are also understood to be trying to offload Sandro, Steven Caulker and Leroy Fer. They too are big earners at the football club. They barely featured for the first-team last season. All spent time away at Premier League clubs.
