Liverpool not in running for £10million Championship winger

The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool are not interested in signing Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend. The former Spurs man has a £10.5million buyout clause in his contract.

The Anfield club had been linked with a move for the 11-cap England international. However it is understood Jurgen Klopp is not interested in making a move.

It is believed that the former Borussia Dortmund manager is more interested in Southampton’s Sadio Mane. He would cost around £30million.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for Townsend. He only made the move to St James’ Park in January. He is believed to have signed for £12million. The player may want to move back to the Premier League to keep his international hopes alive.

During his seven-year professional stay at Tottenham, Townsend had nine loan moves away from White Hart Lane. Including in those were stints at Football League clubs Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient, MK Dons and Leeds United.

Many more clubs will remain interested in the Newcastle forward. One thing is for sure, Liverpool can be firmly crossed off that list.

Most of the big earners and international stars at Newcastle have been linked with transfers in the wake of their relegation. Rafa Benitez will be staying on as manager. The question is, how many players will also stay in the English second tier.
