Oldham Athletic striker set for Notts County return

Oldham Athletic striker Jonathan Forte could make a return to former club Notts County should he opt against a contract extension at Boundary Park according to the Nottingham Post.

The 29 year old forward is out of contract with The Latics this summer and is currently pondering over whether to sign a new contract with the League 1 club.

Should Forte decide to leave the Lancashire club, it has been reported that Notts County manager John Sheridan could be ready to offer the player a return to Meadow Lane. Sheridan previously worked with the striker at Boundary Park last season prior to leaving the club to sign a three year deal with Notts County last month.

Forte has spent two previous spells on loan with The Magpies. The striker initially joined County on loan from Scunthorpe United back in November 2008 and scored eight goals in 18 appearances for the club. Just over four years later, Forte joined Notts County on loan again after falling out of favour at Southampton and the striker bagged a further five goals for the club while adding 11 more appearances to his tally for County.

New Notts County boss John Sheridan has been given the green light by the board to increase the attacking options at the club. After a stuttering 2015/2016 League 2 campaign, the focus really should be on challenging for promotion in the coming season and Forte is a man who could certainly bring more firepower to County’s attack.
