Jaap Stam looking to former club for signings

Reading have approached Manchester United over the possibility of loaning Tyler Blackett according to a report from The Mirror.

The 22-year-old defender came through the club’s academy and did start a few games for United at the start of the of the 2014/15 season when Dutchman Louis van Gaal first took charge. He soon found himself back on the bench and then in the developmental squad as he changed his tactics.

And with first team action looking even more unlikely under Jose Mourinho, Blackett looks like he could be loaned out again. Their new manager Jaap Stam is hoping to leverage his reputation at the club in order to get ahead of the rest of the queue. Signing a new defender to his squad ahead of a season will be key for the Royals’ promotion hopes.

While Blackett has made 11 appearances for Manchester United since coming through their academy, most of his first team action has come during loan spells away from the club. His first stint away from Old Trafford was with Blackpool where he made four appearances and then later that season a similarly short spell with Birmingham City. Last season his only first team action came with Celtic.
