Brighton defender to miss start of season

Brighton and Hove Albion’s Uwe Hunemeier will miss the start of the season due to injury according to a report from The Argus.

Hunemeier has been out since Christmas due to a serious groin injury and it had been hoped that he would be able to return to fitness during pre-season. However the club has been dealt a blow as it was revealed that he will need more time in recovery and that he will miss the first few games of the season at least.

Despite the injury, Brighton manager Chris Hughton still thinks the German defender can make a big contribution this season, especially with the veteran Gordon Greer being released.

After this news was revealed, Hughton said,

“Uwe will be ready very close to the start of the season.

“He might miss the first week or couple of weeks. His schedule is around about the start of the season so he will not be far off.”

Hunemeier went through the DJK Bokel and FC Gutersloh academies before ended up at Borussia Dortmund. He was a regular for their reserve team, though failed to make an impact for the senior side and moved to Energie Cottbus in 2010. After three years there he moved again to Paderborn 07. He continued to impress there and was signed by Brighton last summer.
