Leeds United confirm signing – chief executive

Leeds fans have been waiting with bated breath for the announcement of Marcus Antonsson’s signing. However, the club have announced another signing, this one to the boardroom.

Joining Leeds United as chief executive is Ben Mansford, who moves over from newly-promoted Barnsley. He was at Barnsley for three years, previously being with the Wasserman Media Group in Los Angeles for six years.

On the club website, owner Massimo Cellino says the appointment will be key in allowing the club a better focus.

Cellino said: “I am very pleased to be welcoming Ben to Leeds United to join our expanding management team.

“It is important that we continue to grow our Football Club on and off the pitch, and I believe that Ben has the skills required to help us achieve our targets.

Cellino goes on to say that the appointment will allow him to concentrate on the running of the club. He also says that current Executive Director Paul Bell and Mansford will work “closely” with him in running the club.

On joining Leeds, Mansford is understandably happy at the appointment and the step up to one of the Championship’s bigger clubs. On his appointment he said: “I’m relishing getting started and meeting the staff, especially Garry Monk and his team. Everyone at Leeds United is truly committed to challenging to return to the Premier League and I can’t wait to play my part in that journey.”

With many fans saying that there is a lack of a stable structure at Elland Road, Mansford’s signing might begin to address that.

It seems that, like last summer, there are grassroots signs of a definite structure forming at Elland Road.
