Tommy Elphick set for West Midlands move

AFC Bournemouth’s Tommy Elphick is set for a move to Aston Villa after cutting his honeymoon short so that he could complete a medical at the club, the Bournemouth Echo reports.

The Echo reports that the move is set to be completed early next week, with a fee in excess of £3 million reportedly agreed between the two clubs.

Elphick has been in-demand by numerous clubs this season, with Championship clubs such as Leeds United reportedly expressing an interest in the defender.

The Echo also states that Villa has offered the player a three-year contract, something that was an attractive option to Elphick.

The centre-back featured 14 times in all competitions for the Cherries last season, 12 of those coming in the Premier League, and contributed one goal.

Since making the move to Bournemouth from Brighton in 2012, Elphick has gone on to feature 145 times, scoring six goals and assisting a further two.

The 28-year-old is well experienced in the Championship, playing in 85 games in England’s second tier during his career.

Aston Villa are looking to rebuild under new boss Roberto Di Matteo following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

They remain one of the favourites to secure an immediate return to the top flight, with some bookies offering odds of 11/4 for the West Midlands side to seal promotion.
