Magpies sweating over fitness of striker

Newcastle United are sweating over the fitness of young striker Adam Armstrong after the player suffered a thigh strain whilst away on international duty according to the Chronicle.

The 19 year old is expected to play a part in Newcastle United’s promotion bid in the coming season after impressing in League 1 last season with Coventry City however the player is facing a race against time to be fit for the start of the campaign after suffering an injury setback.

The young striker was set to travel to Germany with the England under 19s side for the European Championships however Armstrong will now miss the full tournament after picking up a thigh strain during a pre-tournament trip to Mexico.

Armstrong was one of the Football League’s success stories last season after netting 20 goals in 40 appearances during a loan spell in League 1 with Coventry City. The player had previously made 19 first team appearances over the course of two seasons with Newcastle United but reaped the rewards of being handed regular first team football during his time away from St James’ Park.

Should the player not be given the opportunity to impress at his parent club next season, Armstrong is expected to have plenty of offers from clubs wanting to take him on loan with over a dozen sides already thought to be interested in the striker.
