Premier League giants Arsenal are closing in on a deal for Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding according to the Daily Star.

The Gunners have been admirers of the player for some time and are hoping to finally be able to complete a deal for the youngster.

The 20 year old Bolton born defender is a product of Wanderers’ academy and the player has gone on to make 31 appearances for the Lancashire club, scoring his only goal in a 3-1 home victory over MK Dons back in January.

Holding has one year remaining on his current deal at The Macron Stadium and Wanderers look set to cash in on their young star rather than run the risk of losing the player for a tribunal fee next summer.

New Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson is hoping to seal the signing of former Millwall defender Mark Beevers later this week paving the way for Holding to complete a reported £1.5 million move to North London.

Arsenal have often been criticised for conceding soft goals and manager Arsene Wenger is looking for reinforcements to boost his side’s defensive unit. It is unlikely that Holding would slot straight into The Gunners’ first team should he complete his move to the Emirates Stadium however the Premier League club could work with the player closely to mould his talent into the Arsenal style of play.
