Former Chelsea midfielder to join Bristol City

Bristol City are set to sign former Chelsea youngster Shabazz Omefe on a short term deal according to the Bristol Post.

The 19 year old joined The Robins on trial towards the end of last season and impressed academy coach Wade Elliott and first team manager Lee Johnson enough to be handed a short term opportunity to put himself in the limelight further.

The Londoner was released by Chelsea after failing to make the grade as a youngster at Stamford Bridge and temporarily dropped out of the sport altogether before joining the Aspire Academy in a bid to relaunch his footballing career.

The player dropped into non league football to gain some first team playing experience and was playing for Ryman League outfit Walton and Hersham when he was spotted by scouts of Bristol City.

Omefe will initially train with The Robins development squad and is likely to be fielded in a number of under 21s fixtures early next season however a long term deal could be on the table for the youngster should he impress at Ashton Gate while there is also the prospect of regular first team football in the Championship with Bristol City should the player show positive signs of development.
