Sheffield Wednesday chasing Scottish international defender

Sheffield Wednesday are chasing the signature of Blackburn Rovers’ Grant Hanley according to a report from The Sun.

The Owls are looking to improve their squad after falling one game short of being promoted to the Premier League last season and while most of their attention so far has been focused on signing new attacking options, the club are now looking to see how they can bolster their back line.

And the South Yorkshire club are set to spend big money on bringing Hanley to Hillsborough. While they will have to stump up £5m, which would come close to breaking their club record signing of £5.7m to bring in Paolo Di Canio back in the 90s, it is seen as an acceptable fee to bring in a proven Championship defender.

They aren’t the only Championship club to be considering making an approach for Hanley however. Earlier in the off season Derby County and Fulham were linked with a move for Hanley, though the Rams denied that they had made a bid while Blackburn were keen to tell any interested clubs that they wouldn’t be cashing in on the Scottish international anytime soon.

Wednesday seem to want to add a Scottish spine to their team after being linked with Steven Fletcher earlier in the summer.
