Iconic figure leaves Bolton Wanderers role

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that Peter Reid has officially left the football club. He returned towards the end of last season in an interim coaching role. He would assist then caretaker manager Jimmy Phillips until the end of the season.

The 59-year-old began his playing career with the club, going on to play 261 times.

Speaking about his departure from the Macron Stadium, chief executive Dean Holdsworth paid tribute to the experienced coach,

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to thank Peter for all his help and effort.

“It was a pleasure to be able to work with him and his opinions and values on the game are fantastic.

“He’s been great for the club and we’re delighted to have had the opportunity to work with him. He’ll remain a close friend of myself and club.”

Reid has enjoyed a very eventful career within football. He won the Second Division title in 1978 with Bolton, before heading on to Everton. It would be a successful time on Merseyside for Reid. They would win the Cup Winners’ Cup, an FA Cup and the First Division title twice.

He entered management with Manchester City in 1990, but he is perhaps most remembered for his time at Sunderland. He twice won the First Division title with the Black Cats. Also, he won the LMA Manager of the Year Award in 1996. More recently he has had management jobs with Mumbai City, the Thailand national team and Plymouth Argyle.
