The bookies believe that they know who the next Nottingham Forest manager will be. After weeks of uncertainty in the market, without a massively strong favourite, things have changed. Gianfranco Zola is now 1/5 to be appointed at the City Ground.

The club have been without a permanent manager for some time since Dougie Freedman was sacked last season, Paul Williams took over for the remainder of the season as caretaker.

The likes of Oscar Garcia and Neil Warnock have mainly been linked in recent times. The fact that Italian Pedro Pereira has been named director of football could lead many to feel fellow Italian Zola could join him.

49-year-old Zola is still in managmenet in Qatar with Al-Arabi. He confirmed legend like status during his playing days after successful stints with Napoli, Parma and Chelsea. He ventured into management after time as part of the Italy Under-21 coaching staff. He linked up with West Ham United, lasting two seasons. He then moved to Championship side Watford, leading them to the Play-Off Final. A brief stint at former club Cagliari followed before he moved to Qatar in July 2015.

He would surely jump at the chance to return to club management in England, especially in the form of two-time European Cup victors Nottingham Forest. Owner Fawaz Al Hasawi recently said that the club are ‘progressing well’ in their search for a new manager. Perhaps Zola could be the man all Nottingham Forest fans have been waiting for.
