Rochdale sign former Sheffield United youngster

Rochdale have signed Harrison McGahey from Sheffield United on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

When the 20-year-old defender signed for the Blades back in 2014, it was seen as a massive coup as his previous team Blackpool had been very keen to keep him. It had been hoped he would develop with the acclaimed academy and then break into the first team but unfortunately for him and the club, that never transpired and he was released this summer after the end of his contract.

McGahey now will get the chance to show why so many thought he had massive potential after signing a two year contract with Rochdale. It’s very likely that now he is back in Lancashire he will get more chances to play in the first team and fulfill the potential that made Blackpool want to keep him around when he left Bloomfield Road back in 2014.

The Preston born defender started his career at the Blackburn Rovers academy but ended up moving from there to Liverpool and then eventually found himself at Blackpool. It was there where he broke into the first team and made four appearances for the club before he decided to leave to join Sheffield United.
