Nottingham Forest takeover saga set to rumble on

Evangelos Marinakis’ takeover of Championship club Nottingham Forest is still some way off being completed according to the Nottingham Post.

The 48 year old founder and chairman of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp and major shareholder of Capital Product Partners L.P has agreed a deal in principal with current Reds owner Fawaz Al Hasawi to purchase an estimated 80% share in the Midlands club.

A deal was initially agreed between the pair around a month ago however it is understood that it could still be some time before the purchase is concluded with the Football League still awaiting receipt of significant documentation from Greek businessman Marinakis including proof of the finances behind the deal.

Marinakis is the owner of Greek Superleague champions Olympiakos and it has been reported that he is preparing to put his stamp on the English game after a successful time at the helm of the Piraeus based club.

Nottingham Forest have been without a permanent manager since sacking former boss Dougie Freedman back in mid March after a poor run of results. Coach Paul Williams was appointed manager on an interim basis but has since also left the club meaning that Forest could face the prospect of starting their pre-season programme without a manager.

The pending takeover of the club is affecting matters both on and off the pitch at The City Ground and current owner Al Hasawi may now need to work with Marinakis to appoint a new manager while the takeover process rumbles on.
