Phil Brown reveals wish to sign Rangers striker

Southend United manager Phil Brown has revealed in comments made to the Southend Echo that he wants to sign Rangers’ Nicky Clark.

The 25-year-old striker helped Rangers return to the Scottish Premier League after spending the last four years in exile but he was released at the end of this season and will not be playing with the Scottish giants next season. He had a decent scoring rate while playing for Rangers after netting 23 times in 203 appearances, though most of his appearances did come as a substitute.

But after playing all of his career in Scotland, he could be about to make a move south of the border after Brown revealed that he wanted to sign him. But Clark isn’t the only person Brown hopes to sign for Southend this season as he also said that he begun talks with an unnamed striker that has recently been released by a Championship club.

Revealing his transfer hopes, Brown said: “We’re interested in signing Nicky and also another striker I travelled up to Newcastle to hold talks with,”

“There’s a lot of interest in him but I spoke with him for an hour-and-a-half and we’re probably at second or third base in terms of finances now.

“The next base is for him to decide if he wants to move down from the north of the country but I’m hoping he will be coming to have a look at the area when he’s back from holiday.”

“There’s not much more we can do at the moment and we’re just having to play that horrible waiting game.”
